Ziad began DJ'ing in 1987 with Pure Groove Promotions, playing at various
one off underground House and Techno parties. Since then he has nurtured
and progressed his sound into an array of straight up house, through tough
tribal beats onto the funkier side of hard house and techno. He currently
has a share in the ownership of two record labels; firstly a houseier
imprint under the name of Remote Recordings and secondly the infamous
leading hard house label, Tripoli Trax. He has also been responsible for
setting up one of London's finest vinyl emporiums, Pure Groove Records.
Having DJ'ed extensively around the London underground party circuit in
the late eighties and early nineties, Ziad took up a brief residency at
Trade in the summer of '94. Then two years later he returned to Trade
where has become a key resident. Ziad is also an integral part of Trade
on tour, which has seen him visit countries such as Brazil, Malta, Ibiza,
Japan and South Africa. 1999 saw the launch of Trade Glasgow as a monthly
event at the Arches, where Ziad featured every other month and was a favourite
amongst our Scottish fans. On Millennium eve, Ziad was the only Trade
DJ to play at both our London and Paris events, a night to remember for
both him and our punters. Then for NYE 2000, Ziad flew the Trade banner
at the extravagant celebrations at the Old Opera House, in Moscow. This
summer he travelled to Ibiza briefly for a couple of dates for Trade at
Privilege, returning for The Love Parade in Newcastle, which although
the main procession was cancelled, was a very busy weekend. On top of
his commitments to Trade, Ziad has a residency at Sundissential (Leeds
and Birmingham), as well regular selected tour dates for Tripoli Trax
and Remote Recordings.
In the studio, Ziad's career began under the guise of 'Da Junkies', which
is a collaboration between himself and Mack Shiner. They've remixed dance
classics such as Armand Van Helden's "Witch Doctor" and Lemon
8's "The Bells Of Revolution" and he's also completed numerous
remixes under his own name (including Lock 'n' Load's "Blow Your
Mind" which reached no.6 in the national charts) as well as tracks
of his own through Tripoli Trax. Ziad has also mixed the third Tripoli
Trax album, which was released last year. Shortly after this, he recorded
another mix CD, this time for the React 21st Century series (with Nick
Rafferty and Simon Eve) which was released in March 2001. Tour dates were
set up to promote both releases. Highlights of these included playing
at clubs such as Progress in Derby, Raukous at Bed and Tripoli Trax's
own parties at The End in London. As well as these, trips abroad included
dates in Canada and a tour of China.
May 2001 saw Ziad produce a fresh track for the special celebratory 75th
release package that featured tracks from all the Tripoli Trax Allstars
(namely Steve Thomas, Pete Wardman, Mark Kavanagh, KGB and the Knuckleheadz).
A couple of months later he released his newest single on Tripoli Trax
"4 To The Floor", which featured a remix from Dutch star Netherman
selling over 5000 copies. Summer 2001 also saw the re-launching of Remote
Recordings, with a track from man of the moment - Timo Maas which also
featured a Da Junkies remix.
Towards the end of the year Ziad has DJ commitments for Trade that will
take him to France and Los Angeles, as well as playing up and down the
country in Birmingham, Plymouth, Bristol, Nottingham, Bournemouth and
London. With his demanding schedule ever growing and his high standard
of studio work, Ziad has proved himself as one of the most dynamic DJs
and producers of the moment.
