Malcolm
Duffy, the most charismatic of all the Trade DJs', started his career
in the late 80's after moving from his native Scotland to new opportunities
in London. The now infamous story of how he arrived at Trade is legendary.
One Sunday morning, Malcolm took a 'carrier bag' to the club and asked
Laurence Malice to put him on. Then after being blown away by his superfluous
mixing and his immense talent Malice made him resident and the rest is
history! Malcolm Duffy is the longest standing resident in the whole of
Trade's duration with him being at the club for more than 10 years. His
regular fixture, set within the first two hours of the DJ schedule, has
been host to Malcolm for as long as we can remember.
Due to his longstanding dedication to the club and through his exceptional
sound, he has a large following who are more than pleased to see him every
time he walks through the doors of at Trade.
Malcolm's style, like any other Trade resident is unique, with an emphasis
on underground US House. His sound is developed from tribal roots and
has been featured on several of Trade's compilations. In '95 he mixed
Trade Vol.1 alongside Tony De Vit, which charted straight into the top
20 and then Vol. 4 with co-residents Steve Thomas and Pete Wardman. His
popularity has got him residencies at Laurence Malice's creation - DTPM,
and Fiction on Fridays, which is held at the Cross. In the studio, Malcolm
is as in demand as he is on the decks.
In 1992 he teamed up with Jonathan Banks and formed the widely acclaimed
'DISS CUSS' from which the sell out single - 'Pissed Apache' (Hooj) was
produced. This paved the way for the two to become a leading remix outfit
in the U.K. Ru Paul, Billy Ray Martin, Felix, East 17 and Zero B are all
artists who've had the DISS CUSS treatment - a pretty impressive list.
Under his own name he produced a track labelled 'Mr Ed', which was part
of the highly successful Trade EP and was played nation-wide to high acclaim.
The Trade Lite label has also had a slice of the Duffy sound. His terrific
single 'Inch by Inch' was signed to several compilations and rose high
in the dance charts. Along with other Trade DJ Ziad he has also had a
high involvement with Remote Recordings, by doing many remixes and releasing
superb tracks with artists such as Smokin' Jo an Miguel P.
On international tours Malcolm is a regular feature. He's already travelled
the entire globe, transporting his unique style of uplifting and progressive
tribal beats. South Africa, Australia, USA, Japan, Russia, Kuala Lumpur,
Ibiza, Scotland and Ireland - you name it, Malcolm Duffy's done it!
