Trade
is the ultimate clubbing experience, the original all night bender and
London's only reputable after hours club. Started eleven years ago by
clubbing supreme Laurence Malice, the club has evolved into something
far bigger. Trade is a global brand, exported throughout the world.
Laurence Malice started Trade eleven years ago. With fifteen years experience
in the promotion of gay and mixed clubs, he is one man with his fingers
firmly on the pulse on club land. Trade is without doubt, Malice's masterpiece.
Something which started as an underground club and which evolved into
what can only be described as a phenomenon.
The club itself has enticed literally hundreds of thousands of people
into its throbbing vortex of sound, light, performance, visuals and of
course people. Every Saturday night/Sunday morning, Pop stars mix with
builders, city professionals mix with models, and doctors with actors.
It is a place, which quite simply unites everyone!
In the United Kingdom, Trade has residencies across the length and breadth
of the country. With London weekly, Bristol, Cardiff and Scotlandmonthly
- Trade's presence in the UK is without question set in stone!
Exporting the brand is something Trade has extreme expertise in. In ten
years Trade has globe trotted the following, and on more than one occasion:-
New York, Miami,Brazil, Washington, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth,
Auckland, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Tel Aviv, Paris, Ireland, Valencia,
Majorca, Ibiza, Helsinki and Montreal. This summer we launched Trade Los
Angeles at the Hollywood Palace which runs bi-weekly.
The Balearic island of Ibiza has been Trade's summer home for the past
four years. 1998 saw Trade take up a three month residency at Privilege,
the worlds largest club. In 1999 and in conjunction with Spanish promoters
- The Matinee Group, completed another sell out season in Ibiza at El
Divino and Space!! Now, as Trade sliced its way through the Summer of
2001, we were back in Ibiza at the worlds largest club - Privilege. Together
with Manumission, Trade will throw it's biggest ever Ibiza season, at
a time when the brand has never been stronger.
Trade is famous for many things, but probably the most famous element
is of course the music policy - pumping, underground, cutting edge dance
music, supplied by its Fierce Rulin' Residents. This term is a brand in
itself and is known throughout the world. International DJs such as Tall
Paul and the late Tony de Vit both came from the Trade stable, a place
where DJs cut their teeth! Currently Trade is proud to list the following
DJ maestros as its residents, most of whom have been with the club since
its inception:
Alan Thompson, Malcolm Duffy, Steve Thomas, Pete Wardman, EJ Doubell,
Lisa German, Rosco, Gonzalo, Sharp Boys, Peter Ward, Steve Haswell, Fat
Tony, Guy Willimas, Ziad, Tom MacMillan, Dolle and Fergie.
Trade has also created a lighter sound, which can be heard in our Lite
Lounge. It's residents are the infamous Fat Tony, Peter Ward and the world
renowned Sharp Boys. This sound, coupled with the main sound of trade
provides the ultimate in clubbing concepts. Trade is as famous in the
studio as it is with its events. Trade Volumes 1, 2, 3 , 4 and Summer
Holiday have all sold in excess of 100,000 units each throughout the UK
alone. The first Trade EP, which featured original material from all of
its residents charted high in the national charts and sold 30,000 units.
Trade have secured a 5 album deal with Beechwood Music which will see
its uniquely branded sound sell out again. All this will ensure that Trade
as a music brand is high amongst the top.
Trade also holds the largest gay paying membership in the UK, currently
exceeding 3700. Each member regularly receives a high quality newsletter
to keep them updated on forthcoming events and special promotions that
are offered to them. In 1997 we introduced Gold and Silver membership
schemes for our more affluent and loyal members, these cards offer extra
privileges and discounts by various businesses.
Due to the unique global success of Trade - the first club to export their
own brand of music to the US - Channel 4 commissioned an hour long documentary
which was broadcast in late 1998. As well as hitting the TV, Trade is
also featured on the Ministry of Sound's website radio station, attracting
in excess of 1.5 million listeners a week.
Last yearTrade was invited by Radio 1 to host a sound stage at the recent
Love Parade, the UK's first ever FREE outside dance festival. To say it
was successful is quite simply an understatement. Up to 400,000 attended
the event and over 200,000 stood their ground at the Trade stage alone.
